Mad Mine 

(1960-1972)

The Mad Mine became the last incarnation of the Pretzel "Dark Mystery' ride.

With George Whitney jr at the helm in 1958, Playland was prepping for a brave new world. Juts back from his tenure with the Disney Corporation, he had an arsenal of new friends to come up with new Playland Theme.  Wild West seemed to be a hit at Disneyland, so.... enter Fun Tier Town and the Mad Mine.

The Mad Mine was extensively themed on the outside. The facade was pulled outward toward the Midway and given a detailed Mining theme.  This included a Water wheel and old mine town exterior with new mining cars for the ride.  It sure looked impressive! The interior was only moderately updated with a few mining related props and gags, but mostly the same Dark Mystery props prettied up with better lighting.
