Ocean Beach Pavilion
(1884 - Chutes at the Beach)
Ocean Beach Pavilion was built 1884, long before "Concessions at the Beach' or "Chutes at the Beach." It was really an all-purpose venue during it's Beach pavilion days. It provided concerts, parties, dances and other entertainment.
In the 1910's during the 'Concessions at the Beach' years it continued to thrive until about 1918.
Around 1918, the building was converted into the Sahara Club. Not much is know about the Sahara Club and the name seemed to change at one point to the Bagdad Club. The Ballroom supposedly sported the only "Spring Board" Dance floor in the city.
Chutes at the beach officially opened in 1921. In 1924, a new venue was brought into the Beach Pavilion building... Hawai'land. Tropical theme? Hula dancing? We really have no idea...
By 1928, Hawi'Land said Bob Voyage as the Whitney Brs. brought in Topsy's Roost.
