Rides - The Whitney Bros. Years
(1930-1940's)
The Whiney Brs. were great promoters, they tried to keep people entertained with a wide array of rides and attractions. This 30 year span saw many rides come and go. Even if the rides were permanenet attractions, the Whitney's liked to move them about the park! The key was to keep things fresh and fun.
The Whitney's inherited many of the big ticket rides from the Looff/Friedle "Chutes at the Beach" years; The Chutes, Big Dipper and other rides. The Brothers would soon introduce San Franciscans to new rides and attractions like the Diving Bell, Laff in the Dark, Rocket Speedway and host of other new and excting attractions.
Lets' check em out...

There are 3 different kinds of Bumper Cars in these photos.... All are Lucce Auto Scooters. Different models and different years. There were 2 major bumper cars from 20's-50's. The Dodgem Cars and Lucce Scooters. This makes things confusing! Playland had a Dodg-em, a Scooter and Dodgem Building and name. Were they all Lucce Scooters? Maybe....
